I have one critical extension I use infrequently that’s not in the MAS, but it’s only available on Chromium-based browsers, so I have a Brave install. It’s too bad that Apple feel they can’t give us extensions while also giving us control, but Safari 14’s reliance on the MAS for distribution means that extensions simply aren’t coming back in the way they were, so you’ll have to go to them. It might be better to simply install a secondary browser, like Firefox or Brave, which lets you run a mature ecosystem of extensions, and replace any extensions you’re using in Safari with equivalent Apple-approved alternatives (I use Roadblock for content filtering). Which one is undefined.Īlthough I empathise, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Objc: Class AMSupportURLConnectionDelegate is implemented in both /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/amework/Versions/A/EmbeddedOSInstall (0x11100dc58) and /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/amework/Versions/A/OSPersonalization (0x110e70358). On my stable Mac Mini (this is the iMac), the softwareupdate error does not appear.Ĭurrent Safari is version 14.0.1 (14610.2.5.1.1). Or maybe the Safari 14.0.1 I already have actually remedied this problem before 14.0 was re-released in the supplemental update on the mainstream, but is just less well-tested. That should be my cue for checking the symptoms, perhaps indicated by a requirement to restart after a Safari install (normally an unusual requirement). So, I suppose, I ought just to wait until Apple publishes a fixed Safari 14.0.1 seed, if they ever do. Question is: need I worry? Ultimately, even though I’m clearly not in a healthy place (see session below), I’m not experiencing any of the slowness or RAM exhaustion people are talking about. This of course means I can no longer benefit from the fixes in the “supplemental” update, which contains a fixed Safari 14.0. When the official builds came out for both, I had already installed the 14.0.1 Safari seed, so I only got the security update. Then I enrolled in DeveloperSeed, and got the beta 2020-005 and Safari 14.0.1 seed. At some point I installed the Safari 14 seed, which was of course prior to the official 2020-005 update. Thanks to Hawk for drawing my attention to this. When standalone versions of these updates become available, I will look in more detail at their contents.įurther information is available from Mr Macintosh, who also advises that these revised updates do appear to address the problems which had resulted from the original releases.Īpple hasn’t yet released any further notes on these updates, and its security notes merely report that the Supplemental Update contains Safari 14 and its fixes. Other combinations are offered if you had only installed one of the previous updates. If you had installed both the earlier updates, then you should receive only the Supplemental Update. If you hadn’t installed either Safari 14 or Security Update 2020-005, then you should receive both the Supplemental Update and the revised Security Update 2020-005. Users are best checking which updates Software Update recommends for their Mac(s), as that should determine which of the two installers to download and run, which differs according to which of the superceded updates had already been installed. A new version of Mojave Security Update 2020-005 then addresses the vulnerabilities which the previous update had tried to address, but this time without any adverse side effects.Ĭurrently, Apple hasn’t released either as a standalone update. Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental Update contains Safari 14, resolves an issue which could impair performance, fixes stability in Migration Assistant, and problems creating new user accounts. These should ensure that all Macs running 10.14.6 have Safari 14 installed, together with the fixes of the later Security Update, without suffering problems. Apple has just released a set of new updates for macOS Mojave 10.14.6 to address earlier problems with the Safari 14 update and Security Update 2020-005.
